Spanish Immersion
At Colores Preschool children are immersed in Spanish language and culture. Children are spoken to in Spanish the whole time they are at school and soon they start understanding the language and responding in Spanish. There are many benefits of learning a second language and it is best to start early in life. Please refer to the Resources tab of this website to find additional information and links to research and articles about the many benefits of second language acquisition at any age. Linking research to practice, at Colores Preschool children absorb language, culture and traditions through activities, interaction, stories, poems, music, art, crafts, holidays, community and free play.
Ages
Colores Preschool is for children ages 18 months to 5 years old.
Schedule
Our hours are 9 a.m. to 1 p.m. Tuesdays, Wednesdays and Thursdays.
Location
We are in (North) Central Austin, near the intersection of Lamar and Koenig. Our address is 908 Old Koenig Lane Austin, TX 78756. We are located in the nursery classroom of the Koenig Lane Christian Church. We are not affiliated with the Church.
Licensing
Colores Spanish Immersion Preschool is an approved State of Texas licensed child-care center.
Our Teachers
Reka Morris holds a Master’s Degree in Spanish Linguistics-Second Language Acquisition and a Bachelor’s Degree in Business Administration from The University of Texas at Austin. Growing up in Hungary and Mexico, Reka learned Hungarian and Spanish. She arrived to Austin to go to college and learn English. She holds early years education and elementary bilingual teacher certifications and has been involved in English-Spanish bilingual education since 2003.
Reka is passionate about sharing her deep and broad knowledge of languages and cultures with children from an early age. She believes that teachers are guides who facilitate each child’s journey towards readiness into our multilingual global community. Reka is a life-long learner who strives to constantly learn and research about different theories and practices of early education and children’s brain development. She is particularly interested in how the best research practices in children’s second language acquisition can be applied in the classroom. Reka’s all-time favorite moments in life include seeing the joy on children’s faces as they discover and learn new things while making everlasting memories. Fabiola (Faby) Segura holds degrees in Preschool Education and Music Pedagogy from universities in Bogotá, Colombia: Universidad de San Buenaventura and Universidad Pedagógica Nacional. She taught preschool at Colegio De La Salle for nine years and served as the Music Director at McMillan Preschool for more than 20 years in Colombia. Faby loves languages and music and really enjoys incorporating music, songs, rhythms, instruments into all aspects of learning and development. It is very beneficial to incorporate the language of music into the education and experiences of young learners especially while learning a second language.
Faby moved to Austin to be closer to her family. She is a proud grandmother of two grandchildren who attended Colores Preschool for a combined 4 years. Before joining Colores, Faby was a teacher at an IB Spanish immersion school in Austin. We’re thrilled to welcome Faby into our Colores community! In her free time, she enjoys spending time with her children and grandchildren, travel, sing and play instruments.
